This article should not treat Israel like a normal beach break. The U.S. State Department’s Israel, the West Bank and Gaza advisory says to reconsider travel to Israel due to terrorism and civil unrest and to reconsider travel to the West Bank due to terrorism and civil unrest. It says not to travel to Gaza for any reason due to terrorism and armed conflict. It also says the security situation in Israel, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, is unpredictable and that incidents including mortar and rocket fire, armed UAV intrusions and missiles can happen without warning.

The advisory also identifies restricted/high-risk areas. U.S. government employees are restricted from personal travel within 11.3 km/seven miles of the Gaza demarcation line and within 4 km/2.5 miles of the Lebanese and Syrian borders. The advisory says Northern Israel within 4 km/2.5 miles of the Lebanese and Syrian borders is Do Not Travel. It also notes additional restrictions can be imposed with little or no notice. That means a traveler should check the latest government advisory immediately before booking and again before departure.

Entry rules changed in 2025.
