Oujda Transport Hub
Oujda is Morocco’s eastern transport gateway: an airport city, an ONCF rail endpoint, and a road hub for Berkane, Saïdia, Nador and the Oriental region. A useful Oujda Transport Hub guide has to explain Oujda Angads Airport (OUD/GMFO), Oujda railway station as the eastern end of many ONCF journeys, CTM Oujda on Rue Sidi Brahim, Gare Routière d’Oujda on Boulevard Sidi Zayed Ben Soltane Al Nahyan, grand taxis for Saïdia/Berkane/Nador, and city taxi movement around Place 16 Août, the medina and Parc Lalla Aicha.
The old generic version was too thin: it mentioned the airport but did not explain how Oujda actually works as a border-region and coastal-access hub. Oujda is not only a city arrival point. It is also where travellers choose between flying into OUD, taking a very long train from western Morocco, using CTM or other coaches, or hiring a grand taxi toward Saïdia beach, Berkane, Nador or regional towns.
The city coordinate anchor used here is 34.681390, -1.908580. OurAirports lists Oujda Angads Airport as a large_airport with scheduled service marked yes, IATA OUD, ICAO GMFO, coordinates 34.789558, -1.926041. OSRM sampled routing returned about 13.4 km / 26 minutes from OUD airport to Oujda station, 13.3 km / 26 minutes to Place 16 Août, 13.8 km / 27 minutes to the medina and 15.2 km / 29 minutes to Gare Routière d’Oujda in clear road conditions.

Arrival Strategy
If arriving by air, OUD airport is close enough for a simple taxi or arranged transfer, but not a walkable city airport. For a first arrival, agree the airport taxi or hotel transfer before moving. If the final destination is Saïdia, Berkane or Nador rather than Oujda city, consider whether a direct driver from the airport is better than entering the city first.
If arriving by rail, Oujda station is the key anchor. The rail trip from Fes, Rabat, Casablanca or Tangier can be long, but it is structured and useful for travellers already inside Morocco. After arrival, CTM is very close to the station side, while the general gare routière is farther west/south-west.
If arriving by coach, check whether the ticket is CTM, another company or a general bus-station departure. CTM Oujda is mapped at 12 Rue Sidi Brahim, while Gare Routière d’Oujda is mapped on Boulevard Sidi Zayed Ben Soltane Al Nahyan. They are not the same point.
If travelling onward to Saïdia, Berkane, Nador or the coast, compare CTM/coach, grand taxi and private-driver options. A summer Saïdia transfer can feel very different from a winter weekday trip.
Airport: Oujda Angads OUD
Oujda Angads Airport (OUD/GMFO) is the airport for Oujda and the Oriental region. The checked airport dataset lists it as a large_airport with scheduled service marked yes, municipality Ahl Angad, coordinates 34.789558, -1.926041, IATA OUD and ICAO GMFO.
For city transfers, OSRM sampled routing returned about 13.4 km / 26 minutes to Oujda station, 13.3 km / 26 minutes to Place 16 Août, 13.8 km / 27 minutes to the medina and 15.2 km / 29 minutes to Gare Routière d’Oujda. The airport is close, but road routing and taxi pickup rules make it a real transfer.
A practical airport-to-city taxi or private-car planning range is MAD 120-250+, depending on time, luggage, final district, driver availability and whether the quote is a hotel/pre-booked pickup. For Saïdia, Berkane or Nador, quote the full route rather than assuming a city taxi price.
Rail: Oujda ONCF Station
Oujda railway station is one of the city’s most important transport assets because Oujda sits at the eastern end of Moroccan rail travel. Use ONCF’s current schedule and fare channels for trains to Fes, Rabat, Casablanca and beyond.
Rail is useful when the trip starts in western or central Morocco. It is less useful for a quick airport arrival because OUD airport has no direct rail link; use taxi/driver from the airport to the city or station.
OSRM sampled routing from Oujda station to CTM Oujda was about 0.5 km / 1 minute, to Gare Routière d’Oujda about 2.8 km / 6 minutes, and to Place 16 Août about 0.7 km / 2 minutes. In practice, station-area taxis are useful if you have bags or arrive late.
Bus, CTM and Gare Routière
CTM Oujda is a company-specific coach point at 12 Rue Sidi Brahim. If your ticket says CTM, follow the CTM point and ticket instructions rather than asking for the general bus station.
Gare Routière d’Oujda is the general road-bus station on Boulevard Sidi Zayed Ben Soltane Al Nahyan. It can be useful for regional buses and lower-cost departures, but confirm the counter, platform, luggage policy and final city before paying.
For routes toward Saïdia, Berkane or Nador, coaches and buses can be useful, but grand taxis are often more flexible. For long westbound trips, ONCF rail may be more comfortable than road if schedule and fare fit.
Grand Taxis and Eastern Morocco Routes
Grand taxis are central to Oujda’s regional role. They are useful for Berkane, Saïdia, Nador, OUD airport, NDR airport and towns not served cleanly by rail. Always confirm whether you are paying for one seat, multiple seats or the whole car.
For Saïdia beach, summer demand can change prices and waiting times. For Nador or NDR airport, the road leg is long enough that a private transfer should be quoted carefully. For Berkane, shared options may be easier, but departure points and timing should still be confirmed locally.
Oujda is also close to the Algerian border region, but ordinary travel planning should not assume an open cross-border route. Check current border and visa conditions through official sources before building any Algeria-side itinerary.
Local Taxis, Apps and City Movement
Inside Oujda, petit taxis are the visitor workhorse for station, CTM, medina, Place 16 Août, Parc Lalla Aicha and hotels. Agree the fare or meter before moving, especially with luggage or at night.
There is no underground rail, subway or tram layer to plan around in Oujda. City buses exist, but for first arrivals taxis are usually easier. For longer stays, local bus knowledge can reduce costs if the route is known.
Ride-app availability can change and should not be the backbone of an airport or regional transfer. Use airport taxi, hotel driver, CTM/ONCF, known local drivers or grand taxi ranks for important travel days.
MAD Fare Planning
These MAD ranges are practical planning figures, not legal tariffs. Use official operator pages, station counters, taxi stands and live quotes for current fares.
| Ride or ticket | Practical planning range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Short Oujda petit taxi ride | MAD 10-30 | Station, CTM, medina and central hotel hops |
| Oujda station to gare routière taxi | MAD 15-40 | Useful with luggage |
| OUD airport to Oujda city | MAD 120-250+ | Confirm airport taxi or hotel pickup fare before moving |
| Oujda to Berkane shared/seat | MAD 30-80+ | Depends on rank, vehicle and season |
| Oujda to Saïdia shared/seat | MAD 40-120+ | Summer demand can raise quotes |
| Oujda to Nador shared/seat | MAD 80-180+ | Longer road leg; confirm destination point |
| Oujda to Saïdia private car | MAD 350-700+ | Whole-car quote, waiting and return matter |
| Oujda to NDR airport private transfer | MAD 700-1,200+ | Long airport-to-airport style road transfer |
| Oujda-Fes train | By ONCF fare | Long but structured rail trip |
| CTM/coach domestic ticket | By operator fare | Check current fare and luggage rules |
Route Samples from Oujda
OSRM sampled routing gives road-distance anchors. These are not timetable promises and should be adjusted for traffic, station access, summer beach demand and regional road conditions.
| Route | Sampled road distance / time | Use |
|---|---|---|
| OUD airport to Oujda station | 13.4 km / 26 min | Airport-to-ONCF transfer |
| OUD airport to Place 16 Août | 13.3 km / 26 min | Airport to central city landmark |
| OUD airport to medina | 13.8 km / 27 min | Airport to old-city side |
| OUD airport to Gare Routière | 15.2 km / 29 min | Airport-to-bus transfer |
| Oujda station to CTM | 0.5 km / 1 min | Rail-to-CTM transfer |
| Oujda station to Gare Routière | 2.8 km / 6 min | Rail-to-bus transfer |
| Oujda to Berkane | 60.1 km / 52 min | Regional grand taxi/coach route |
| Oujda to Saïdia | 59.4 km / 55 min | Beach/coast transfer |
| Oujda to Nador | 140.2 km / 122 min | Long regional road route |
| Oujda to NDR airport | 142.5 km / 124 min | Alternative airport transfer |
| Oujda to Fes station | 329.5 km / 222 min | Rail/road long-distance planning |
| Oujda to Rabat Ville | 519.5 km / 342 min | Long ONCF/road journey |
| Oujda to Casablanca | 614.2 km / 403 min | Very long rail/road journey |
Choosing Between OUD, NDR, ONCF and Road Routes
Oujda has several competing gateways, and the cheapest ticket is not always the best arrival. OUD airport is the cleanest choice when the final destination is Oujda city, Berkane or Saïdia. It keeps the first transfer short and avoids a long cross-region road leg after landing.
Nador Al Aaroui Airport (NDR/GMMW) can make sense when the final destination is Nador, the Rif coast or a ferry-linked itinerary. For Oujda itself, OSRM sampled routing from Oujda to NDR airport was about 142.5 km / 124 minutes, so it is not a casual substitute for OUD unless the flight price or timing is much better.
ONCF rail is the best structured option when starting in Fes, Rabat or Casablanca and when time is less important than predictability. The journey is long, but it puts you directly into the city transport network and avoids airport taxi negotiation.
Road coaches and grand taxis are strongest for regional movement: Berkane, Saïdia, Nador and smaller towns. In summer, Saïdia demand can change waiting time and prices, so early departures and clear return plans matter.
| Gateway choice | Best fit | Main caution |
|---|---|---|
| OUD airport | Oujda, Berkane, Saïdia | Confirm airport taxi or onward driver |
| NDR airport | Nador/Rif coast/ferry-side plans | Long transfer if staying in Oujda |
| ONCF to Oujda | Fes/Rabat/Casablanca starts | Long rail day |
| Coach/grand taxi | Regional routes and coast | Seat vs whole-car price must be clear |
Station-Side Transfers and Ticket Checks
Around the station area, the important habit is to keep the company name visible. If the ticket says CTM, go to the CTM point on Rue Sidi Brahim. If the trip is with another bus operator, ask for Gare Routière d’Oujda and confirm the destination counter before handing over luggage.
For regional grand taxis, ask by destination rather than by generic station name: Berkane, Saïdia, Nador, Ahfir or the exact town. A shared seat, a partially filled car and a private hire can all sound similar in conversation but price very differently.
For rail-to-bus transfers, do not let the short map distance create a rushed connection. CTM is close to the station side, but a coach ticket still has check-in, luggage and boarding rules. The general gare routière is farther away and more dependent on taxi traffic. If the train arrives at night, use a petit taxi even for a short hop and keep the hotel address or coach-station name written in French or Arabic.
For airport-to-station transfers, decide before landing whether the next leg is ONCF, CTM, gare routière or a private regional car. That decision changes the taxi instruction. “Oujda station”, “CTM Rue Sidi Brahim”, “Gare Routière d’Oujda” and “Saïdia direct” are four different trips, even if they begin at the same OUD arrivals curb.
Best Areas to Stay
Stay near Oujda station / Place 16 Août if rail, CTM and central movement matter. This is the most practical base for short stays and early departures.
Stay near the medina if old-city atmosphere and walking access matter more than transport convenience. Use taxis for station and airport transfers.
Stay near Parc Lalla Aicha for a quieter city base with easy taxi access. It is less station-focused but comfortable for local movement.
Stay near the gare routière only if an early bus departure makes it necessary. Most visitors are better off near the station/centre and taking a taxi to the bus station.
Stay outside Oujda only if the trip is really about Saïdia, Berkane, Nador or a resort/coastal route. In that case, quote the onward transfer before booking the flight.
First-Time Checklist
- Confirm the airport code: Oujda uses OUD/GMFO.
- Use Oujda railway station / ONCF for long westbound journeys.
- Do not confuse CTM Oujda with Gare Routière d’Oujda.
- Use grand taxis for Berkane, Saïdia and some Nador routes when coach timing is poor.
- Carry small MAD notes for taxis and station transfers.
- Confirm whether a grand taxi quote is per seat or whole car.
- Do not plan around subway/tram inside Oujda.
- For Nador or NDR airport, treat the road leg as a long transfer.
- Check official border conditions before any Algeria-side idea.
- Add summer demand buffer for Saïdia routes.
