Quezon City Transport Hub
Quezon City is one of Metro Manila’s strongest transport cities, but it is not a simple airport-to-downtown place. The practical transport map is built around Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL / NAIA) to the south, Cubao / Araneta City as the main long-distance road hub, MRT-3 on EDSA, LRT-2 on Aurora Boulevard, the EDSA Carousel busway, local jeepneys and UV Express routes, the free Q City Bus network, and app-based rides such as Grab.
For most visitors, the easiest first-day plan is direct: land at NAIA, use Grab, airport taxi or the NAIA-Cubao P2P bus if it matches your time, then base yourself near Cubao, North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Tomas Morato, UP Diliman, Eastwood, Katipunan or the district where your meetings are. Quezon City is large enough that “near Quezon City” is not specific. The wrong hotel can add an hour to every airport or terminal move.

Arrival Strategy
Landing At NAIA
NAIA is the normal arrival airport for Quezon City. The New NAIA site is the airport authority starting point, while Grab’s NAIA page gives practical pickup guidance for Terminals 1-4. For Quezon City, the realistic arrival choices are GrabCar, GrabTaxi, coupon/airport taxi, hotel transfer, private car, or P2P bus to Cubao if the schedule lines up.
Quezon City is north of the airport, and the route can be slow because it crosses Metro Manila traffic. A trip to Cubao or Quezon Avenue can be straightforward at night and painful in rush hour. If arriving with luggage, children or an early meeting, pay for door-to-door transport rather than mixing airport walks, rail transfers and jeepneys on day one.
Using The NAIA-Cubao P2P Bus
The NAIA-Cubao P2P bus is one of the few airport links that directly helps Quezon City visitors. 2026 guide sources list the Araneta City Cubao route at PHP 200, with NAIA Terminal 3 pickup around Bay 12 and Cubao pickup at Araneta City Bus Port / Manhattan Heights, General Romulo Avenue. P2P Bus Philippines lists a NAIA-Araneta City Cubao schedule, while travel guides show multiple daily departures.
Use this route when your hotel is in Cubao, Araneta City, Aurora Boulevard, Gateway, Ali Mall or near the MRT/LRT interchange. Do not use it blindly for UP Diliman, Commonwealth, Fairview, Eastwood or Tomas Morato unless you already have a second transfer planned.
Clark Airport As A Backup
Clark International Airport can be useful if the flight is cheaper or direct, but it is not a close Quezon City airport. The Clark-to-Quezon City chain usually means airport bus or private car toward North Avenue/Trinoma, Cubao or another Metro Manila drop point. Genesis advertises P2P links involving Clark Airport, Trinoma and NAIA, so check the exact route before choosing Clark for a QC stay.
If arrival is late, compare the total cost of Clark transfer, traffic and hotel location against landing at NAIA. Clark can be calm and efficient, but the ground distance matters.
Cubao And Long-Distance Road Travel
Araneta City Bus Port
Cubao is Quezon City’s classic long-distance road hub. Araneta City Bus Port is the managed anchor, located around General Romulo Avenue, Cubao, near Ali Mall and Manhattan Heights. Waze lists the address as General Romulo Ave, Cubao, Quezon City, phone (02) 8588 4156, and daily hours around 05:00-23:00. ABS-CBN reported the relocation of provincial buses to the newer bus port, with the facility at Manhattan Heights Tower D / General Romulo Avenue.
The reason Cubao works well is its density: MRT-3 Araneta-Cubao, LRT-2 Araneta-Cubao, Araneta City malls, bus offices, UV Express and jeepney routes are all close. The reason it can be hard is the same density. Give yourself extra time to walk between the rail lines, mall exits and the exact bus bay.
Victory Liner, Genesis, Five Star And Partas
Not all provincial buses use Araneta City Bus Port. Cubao has operator-specific terminals. Genesis lists its main terminal at 704 EDSA corner New York Street, Cubao, Quezon City. Five Star lists its Cubao terminal at 674 EDSA, E. Rodriguez, Quezon City. Victory Liner and Partas also have Cubao terminal pages or mapped listings around EDSA/Aurora Boulevard.
The practical rule is simple: follow the operator address, not just “Cubao.” A passenger going to Baguio, Pampanga, Pangasinan, La Union, Baler, Cagayan Valley, Batangas or Bicol may need a different Cubao terminal. Send the exact terminal name and address to Grab or the taxi driver.
When To Use PITX Instead
Some southbound and inter-island road trips are better from PITX in Paranaque, not Quezon City. If your destination is Cavite, Batangas, parts of Southern Luzon or a ferry-linked route, compare Cubao with PITX before booking. From Quezon City, PITX can be reached by EDSA Carousel, Grab or taxi, but it is far enough that the transfer itself needs time.
If your hotel is in QC and the bus departs from PITX early, consider staying closer to the airport/PITX side the night before, especially with luggage.
Rail And Busway Spine
MRT-3 On EDSA
MRT-3 is the most important rail line for many Quezon City visitors. QC stations include North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, GMA-Kamuning, Araneta-Cubao and Santolan-Annapolis. It is useful for SM North EDSA, Trinoma, Timog/Kamuning access, Cubao, Ortigas, Makati and Taft connections.
The DOTr MRT-3 fare matrix shows a distance-based fare table, and LRTA fare guidance notes the 2026 50% discount policy for LRT-2 and MRT-3 passengers. The practical traveller advice is to buy or load a beep card if you will ride repeatedly, avoid peak crush hours with luggage, and treat North Avenue and Cubao as busy interchange zones.
LRT-2 On Aurora Boulevard
LRT-2 is the east-west rail line that matters for Cubao, Gilmore, Anonas, Katipunan and the university/east-side corridor. LRTA’s fare page explains ticket vending, teller booth payment, stored value cards and the 2026 fare-discount policy. For Quezon City, LRT-2 is particularly useful for Araneta-Cubao, Anonas, Katipunan and trips toward Marikina/Pasig or Manila’s university belt.
LRT-2 is a good airport transfer helper only after you already reach a rail-connected point. It does not go to NAIA. Use it after a Grab, P2P bus or road transfer drops you near Cubao or another connected area.
EDSA Carousel
The EDSA Carousel busway is the road-based spine on EDSA, useful when MRT-3 is crowded or when your destination is closer to a Carousel stop. 2026 guide sources describe Quezon City stops including Santolan, Main Avenue, Nepa Q-Mart, Kamuning, Quezon Avenue, Philam QC, North Avenue, SM North EDSA, Fernando Poe Jr., Kaingin Road and Balintawak. Fare guides list a distance-based fare, with common reporting around PHP 15-PHP 75 depending on distance.
The Carousel can beat car traffic because it uses dedicated busway infrastructure, but stops can require stairs, footbridges and long walks. With heavy bags, Grab or taxi may still be better.
Local Mobility In Quezon City
Q City Bus
Quezon City Government lists eight Q City Bus routes and says the service continues to offer free rides to reduce transport costs. Routes include QC Hall to Cubao, QC Hall to Litex / IBP Road, Welcome Rotonda to Aurora-Katipunan, QC Hall to General Luis, QC Hall to Mindanao Avenue via Visayas Avenue, QC Hall to Gilmore, QC Hall to C5 / Ortigas Avenue Extension, and QC Hall to Muñoz. The page says the buses are air-conditioned, have free WiFi, and operate daily except holidays.
This is excellent for daytime local moves if the route matches your origin and destination. It is not an airport transfer and it is not the fastest option for every district. Check the stop and route before walking.
Jeepneys, UV Express And Local Buses
Quezon City still depends heavily on jeepneys, UV Express vans and regular city buses. These are useful for short links from rail stations to districts such as Fairview, Commonwealth, Project 4, Katipunan, Eastwood, Novaliches and Tandang Sora. They are also the modes most likely to confuse a first-time visitor because route names are local and stops can be informal.
Use jeepneys and UV Express after you understand the route or when a local host points you to the correct loading area. For first arrival with luggage, use Grab, taxi or P2P.
Grab, Taxis And Airport Taxis
Grab is the easiest paid local option for visitors because it gives pickup guidance, route tracking and upfront pricing for most GrabCar rides. Grab’s NAIA page also lists airport transfer services and pickup guidance. For ordinary taxis, LTFRB fare history and 2026 fare reporting show that base fares and airport taxi rates can change; Inquirer reported 2026 increases for airport taxis, P2P and TNVS, including airport taxi base fare moving to PHP 115 for the first 500 meters and TNVS base fare increases by vehicle class.
At NAIA, avoid informal offers. Use the airport taxi counter, Grab booth/app instructions, hotel pickup, or a known private transfer. In Quezon City, if using a metered taxi, make sure the meter is used or agree the fare before departure.
District Planning
Cubao / Araneta City
Best for bus departures, NAIA-Cubao P2P, MRT-3, LRT-2, shopping malls and events at Smart Araneta Coliseum. It is busy, practical and transport-rich.
North Avenue / SM North / Trinoma
Best for MRT-3 North Avenue, EDSA Carousel, Q City Bus access, shopping and northern QC logistics. It is also useful for Clark-side P2P or northern Luzon transfers.
Quezon Avenue / Timog / Tomas Morato
Best for restaurants, nightlife, media offices and central QC stays. Use MRT-3 Quezon Avenue or GMA-Kamuning plus Grab/taxi for final movement.
UP Diliman / Katipunan
Best for universities, Ateneo, UP, Miriam, academic trips and east-side access. LRT-2 Katipunan is useful, but many final legs still need jeepney, tricycle, taxi or Grab.
Eastwood / C5
Best for business process offices, condos and nightlife on the east side. It is not rail-direct; use Grab/taxi, Q City Bus route logic, or local bus/jeepney links.
Fairview / Commonwealth / Novaliches
Best for northern residential areas, malls and local visits. Airport trips are long, so allow major buffers and avoid tight flight timing.
Car Rental, Cycling And Safety
Car Rental And Driving
Renting a car inside Metro Manila is rarely the best first choice for visitors. Traffic, parking, motorcycle density, one-way systems and flood-prone weather can erase the benefit. A car with driver, Grab or taxi is usually easier. Rent only if you are leaving Metro Manila and understand tolls, parking and route timing.
Cycling And Bike Lanes
Quezon City Government highlights its expanded bike lane network on Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon Avenue, East Avenue, North Avenue and other corridors, with protected lanes growing to more than 206 km as of March 2026. This is useful for residents and confident cyclists, but visitors should be cautious: heat, rain, traffic and road gaps can be challenging.
Safety And Travel Advice
Official travel advice matters for Metro Manila. The U.S. State Department advises increased caution in the Philippines, while GOV.UK notes that demonstrations in Metro Manila can cause disruption. For everyday transport, the practical risks are traffic, late-night fatigue, pickpocketing in crowds, informal taxi offers and weather delays.
Use airport counters or app rides at NAIA, keep phones and wallets secure at busy stations, avoid rushing through footbridges with luggage, and leave a wide airport buffer during rain or peak traffic.
