São Bernardo do Campo is an ABC Paulista road-and-bus hub, not a rail hub. The public-mode alternative depends on your destination. If you need Rudge Ramos, Centro or Anchieta, the direct car may be far simpler. If you are going onward to São Paulo metro or another ABC city, compare Jabaquara, Saúde, Tamanduateí or EMTU corridor options. But do not underestimate traffic around Congonhas, Avenida dos Bandeirantes and Anchieta approaches.

Use this CGH plan:

1. Save the destination with neighborhood: Rudge Ramos, Centro, Anchieta, Assunção, Alvarenga, Ferrazópolis or Riacho Grande.
2. Check Uber or taxi quote at arrivals.

If You Land at Guarulhos

GRU is the right airport for international flights, but it is not close. A direct transfer crosses a large part of Greater São Paulo and can be very traffic-sensitive. If you are staying in São Bernardo for a meeting, direct car is usually worth it after a long flight. If you are traveling light and budget-focused, compare airport rail/bus into São Paulo with metro/CPTM and a final bus or ride-hail leg, but that is a multi-stage trip.

For GRU arrivals, avoid scheduling a tight meeting in São Bernardo immediately after landing. Immigration, baggage, pickup wait and road traffic can all stack up. For early outbound international flights, sleep closer to GRU or book a reliable prearranged transfer from São Bernardo.

If You Arrive by Bus

Read the ticket carefully. “São Bernardo do Campo” may mean a long-distance road terminal, an EMTU corridor terminal, a curbside stop, or a neighboring São Paulo/ABC terminal depending on operator. Viação Cometa’s official notice says that from 28/04/2022, boarding and alighting for São Bernardo moved from João Setti on Rua Domingos João Balotim, 80 to Terminal Grande Alvarenga at Estrada dos Alvarenga, 235, Assunção. BlaBlaCar and Busbud still list João Setti-style pages and addresses, which is exactly why the operator ticket must control the final plan.

If arriving late by bus, take Uber or taxi to the hotel. São Bernardo is spread out, and a “nearby” address can still involve hills, highways or industrial streets.

Assunção and Alvarenga are farther south/west inside São Bernardo. If your operator uses Terminal Grande Alvarenga, allow more time than you would for Centro. This is especially important for long-distance bus departures: the city can be close to CGH on paper, but the final road leg can still be slow at the wrong hour.

For an airport-to-terminal connection, do not cut it close. Use direct car and arrive early. If the trip is part of a longer intercity bus day, a fixed transfer may be worth the extra certainty.

GRU to São Bernardo

GRU to São Bernardo is a regional metropolitan transfer. For a family, business traveler or late arrival, use direct car. For a solo budget traveler, compare airport rail/bus into São Paulo and a final ride from metro/CPTM, but only if carrying light luggage and arriving during operating hours.

If staying near a rail-connected neighbor, such as Santo André or São Caetano, it may sometimes be better to sleep there and commute to São Bernardo by bus/taxi. For work in São Bernardo itself, stay in São Bernardo and accept the road transfer.

EMTU, Next Mobilidade and ABC Corridors

Terminal Metropolitano Ferrazópolis

Terminal Metropolitano Ferrazópolis is the most important metropolitan corridor anchor to understand. EMTU’s Corredor Metropolitano ABD terminal page identifies São Bernardo and Terminal Metropolitano Ferrazópolis in the ABD corridor context. This terminal is useful for:

This is a stronger source than generic fare benchmarks because it names the corridor and the effective date.

The practical rule is: check the exact line. EMTU fares vary by line, direction and service type. A São Bernardo corridor ride is not the same as a São Paulo municipal bus fare.

Viação Cometa’s official notice states that São Bernardo boarding/alighting moved to Terminal Grande Alvarenga, Estrada dos Alvarenga, 235, Assunção. That matters because older pages still show Terminal Rodoviário João Setti at Rua Domingos João Balotim, 80.

If your ticket says São Bernardo, follow the operator’s current terminal instruction. If it still mentions João Setti, contact the operator before travel. Do not let a taxi take you to the old address without confirming the ticket.

São Paulo Terminals as Alternatives

For some intercity routes, São Paulo’s larger terminals may offer better schedules than São Bernardo. Jabaquara, Tietê and Barra Funda can all matter depending on destination. São Bernardo does not have a central rail/metro station for ordinary travel. Plans and projects have existed, but the live network for visitors is bus, road and neighboring-city rail. Centro / Paço Municipal

Anchieta / Industrial Corridor

Stay near Anchieta when the trip is about factories, industrial parks, logistics or meetings along the highway. A car or Uber is usually more important than bus access here.

Assunção / Alvarenga
