Prievidza Transport Hub
Prievidza is a regional transport hub for the Upper Nitra area, Bojnice, Handlová, Nováky and the road-and-rail corridor toward Bratislava, Trenčín, Žilina and central Slovakia. The old version of this article treated Sliač Airport as the natural air gateway because it is relatively close on a map. That is not the best traveler logic. For most ordinary passengers, Prievidza is reached by rail or bus from Bratislava, Vienna, Trenčín, Trnava, Žilina or another major node. Local aviation exists around Prievidza, and Sliač is nearby, but the practical airport plan usually starts with Bratislava Airport or Vienna Airport and then continues by train, bus or private transfer.
The useful city anchors are Prievidza rail hub at T. Vansovej 504/9, Autobusová stanica Prievidza at Terézie Vansovej 1, SAD Prievidza for regional and city MHD service, the short Prievidza-Bojnice bus hop, ZSSK trains toward Bratislava through Trnava, and local taxis for Bojnice, late arrivals and airport-style transfers. There is no metro and no airport train. A good plan names the exact terminal, checks the last evening connection and treats Bojnice as part of the local mobility picture rather than a separate destination.

| Local airfield | Prievidza Airport / LZPE near Prievidza and Bojnice | Useful for aviation activity, not normal scheduled passenger arrivals. |
| Sliač logic | Nearby airport by map, but not the normal passenger gateway | Do not build a commercial flight plan around SLD unless a specific flight exists. |
| Bratislava Airport route | BTS to Prievidza can be bus + train, around 3h18 to 3h42 in Rome2rio route context | Good when flights to Bratislava fit the date. |
| Vienna Airport route | VIE to Prievidza can route via Trenčín or by rail via Vienna/Bratislava/Trnava | Useful for wider flight choice, but longer. |
| Main rail point | Prievidza rail hub, T. Vansovej 504/9 | Use for ZSSK trains, especially Bratislava/Trnava links. |
| Main road terminal | Autobusová stanica Prievidza, Terézie Vansovej 1 | Main bus anchor beside the rail area. |
| City operator | SAD Prievidza | Operates MHD Prievidza and regional buses. |

| Taxi benchmarks | Local taxi pages show city rides from about €2.50-€3.00 and regional per-km/airport-transfer pricing | Confirm live quote before departure. |
Arrival Strategy
Prievidza works best as a rail-and-road arrival city. If you fly into Slovakia or Austria, the airport is only the first part of the route. The city-side arrival point will usually be the rail hub or the bus terminal, both around Terézie Vansovej and close enough to handle as one transport district.
Flight Arrival
For international visitors, compare Bratislava, Vienna, Ostrava and Budapest. Bratislava is administratively Slovak and often straightforward by train. Vienna may have better flight choice but requires a cross-border transfer through Trenčín, Bratislava or rail changes. Sliač is close on paper but should not be treated as the default scheduled-airline gateway unless your ticket specifically uses it. Prievidza Airport / LZPE is a local aviation field, not the place most airline passengers land.
Train Arrival
Rail is strong for Bratislava and Trnava. Rome2rio lists Prievidza-Bratislava rail journeys from about €9, taking roughly 2h49 on the quickest connections, with a transfer via Trnava. Busbud also shows Bratislava-Prievidza rail around three hours with multiple daily departures. ZSSK is the source to use for final times and tickets.
Bus Arrival
Regional buses matter for Trenčín, Bojnice, Handlová, Nováky, Partizánske and smaller Upper Nitra towns. SAD Prievidza is the local operator and Ubian gives MHD and bus timetable tools. For Prague or other long-distance routes, check operators such as FlixBus and platform information on the ticket.
Airports For Prievidza
Prievidza does not have a normal airline airport. That sentence saves confusion. It has a local airport/airfield context, and there are several usable passenger airports within a wider regional radius.
Prievidza Airport / LZPE
Mapy describes Prievidza Airport as located near Prievidza and Bojnice in the Hornonitrianska basin. Flight-simulation and aviation references describe it as used for aviation sports, air tourism, parachuting, events and aviation-related activity. That makes it locally important, but not the hub for ordinary scheduled passenger arrivals.
Sliač Airport / SLD
Sliač is geographically closer than Bratislava or Vienna, but the traveler should check current passenger service before using it in an itinerary. For many dates, a flight to Bratislava or Vienna plus train/bus onward movement will be more realistic. Treat Sliač as a special-case airport, not the main gateway.
Bratislava, Vienna, Ostrava And Budapest
Rome2rio’s nearby-airports page says Bratislava is the nearest major passenger airport in one context, while noting that other options may be better depending on route. It also gives examples such as Budapest via Zvolen or Ostrava by rail through Žilina and Vrútky. For visitors, the useful rule is to compare total door-to-door time, not only airport distance.
Bratislava And Vienna Airport Routes
Bratislava Airport / BTS
Bratislava Airport’s official transport page says bus 61 connects the airport with the city centre and main railway station, with the airport stop in front of the Departures terminal. From Bratislava city or main railway station, use ZSSK rail toward Prievidza, usually with a transfer such as Trnava. Rome2rio gives a BTS-Prievidza no-car route around 3h18 to 3h42 by bus and train, with a low-to-moderate fare band.
Private transfer is possible but expensive compared with rail. MyTransfers lists Bratislava Airport to Prievidza at approximately 175.12 km and about 1h56 by private transfer, with a sedan example at €385. That is useful as a premium benchmark, not a budget recommendation.
Vienna Airport / VIE
Vienna gives stronger flight choice. Rome2rio lists VIE-Prievidza by bus via Trenčín and Mníchova Lehota in around 4h50, or by train through Vienna Hbf, Bratislava and Trnava in around 5h51. For many international travelers, this can still be worthwhile if the flight is cheaper or better timed.
Airport Decision Table
| Airport | Best use | Ground route logic |
|---|---|---|
| Bratislava BTS | Slovakia-focused trip, rail onward | Bus 61 to Bratislava rail hub, then ZSSK toward Prievidza. |
| Vienna VIE | More flight choice, long-haul arrivals | Bus/rail via Trenčín or Bratislava/Trnava. |
| Ostrava OSR | Northern/Czech arrival | Rail via Ostrava and Žilina/Vrútky in some route contexts. |
| Budapest BUD | Hungary-side itinerary | Bus/rail via Zvolen or central Slovakia depending on schedule. |
| Sliač SLD | Special-case flight only | Confirm current service before using. |
| Prievidza LZPE | Local aviation | Not a normal airline arrival point. |
Prievidza Rail Hub
The rail hub is one of the strongest parts of Prievidza transport. Mapy lists Prievidza at T. Vansovej 504/9, 97101 Prievidza, and Busbud also identifies Terézie Vansovej as a Prievidza rail stop context. ZSSK is the operating/ticket source for Slovak rail times, and the ZSSK contact centre provides national support through 18 188 or +421 24 48 58 188.
Bratislava And Trnava
Prievidza-Bratislava rail journeys generally require a transfer. Rome2rio lists a route via Trnava, with Prievidza-Trnava around 2h05 and Trnava-Bratislava around 32 minutes, depending on schedule. Busbud’s route context similarly shows rail as a common Bratislava-Prievidza option, with a typical duration around 3 hours.
Žilina, Vrútky And Northern Links
For northern Slovakia and Czech/Polish-side connections, you may route through Vrútky, Žilina or Trenčín depending on timetable. Always check ZSSK for the specific date, because smaller regional legs can have lower frequency than mainline trains.
Rail Practicalities
Use the rail hub when:
- Traveling to/from Bratislava with a timed transfer.
- Connecting to Trnava.
- Connecting north toward Žilina/Vrútky.
- Combining train with local bus to Bojnice.
- Avoiding a long private transfer from an airport.
Autobusová Stanica Prievidza
Autobusová stanica Prievidza is the main road terminal. Czech Transport lists it at Terézie Vansovej 1, 971 01 Prievidza, Slovakia, with coordinates 48.774223, 18.617096. The rail hub is also on Terézie/T. Vansovej, so the rail-and-bus district is compact.
SAD Prievidza is the key operator for the area. Its official site publishes MHD and regional transport information and notes timetable changes, including an update from 1 May 2026 for MHD Prievidza/Bojnice schedules. Ubian provides live-style timetable search and ticket/card tools for MHD Prievidza.
Terminal Practical Use
Use the bus terminal for:
- Local city and Bojnice trips.
- Regional services to Handlová, Nováky, Partizánske, Nitrianske Pravno and surrounding villages.
- Connections toward Trenčín and central Slovakia.
- Long-distance buses when offered by operators such as FlixBus or other platforms.
- Taxi pickup if the hotel is outside the immediate centre.
Do Not Confuse The Terminal With Bojnice
Bojnice is nearby, but it is not the same stop. If staying for Bojnice Castle or the spa, check whether your hotel is in Prievidza, Bojnice centre, Bojnice-kúpele or another local stop. The bus can be easy, but exact stop names matter.
MHD Prievidza And Local Fares
City transport in Prievidza is operated by SAD Prievidza. IMHD’s Prievidza information page says public transport in Prievidza is operated by SAD Prievidza, gives sadpd@sadpd.sk and www.sadpd.sk as operator contacts, and lists city transport tickets from 1 April 2023. Ubian provides MHD Prievidza timetable search, card top-up and ticket tools.
Fare Benchmarks
IMHD’s fare summary lists short-term single-trip ticket prices as:
| Payment method | Full fare | Practical use |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic wallet | €0.60 | Best value if you have the local card/wallet setup. |
| Cash or bank card | €0.80 | Useful visitor benchmark for a simple local ride. |
| Reduced fare | Lower values by category | Check eligibility before relying on discounts. |
Visitor Use
For most visitors, MHD is useful for:
- Rail/bus terminal to central Prievidza.
- Prievidza to Bojnice.
- Bojnice spa/castle/zoo trips.
- Hotel areas not close to the station district.
- Daytime errands without a taxi.
At night or with luggage, taxis are easier. For a short stay, the difference between a cheap bus ride and a €3-€6 taxi may be less important than timing.
Regional Routes And Bojnice
Bojnice is the local destination that changes Prievidza transport planning. Many visitors are coming for Bojnice Castle, the zoo, the spa or events, and Prievidza is the rail/bus entry point.
Moovit lists a Prievidza-to-Bojnice public route using bus line 90 from Autobusová Stanica to Bojnice – Šlacht. Stanica, with about 10 minutes travel time. It also shows an alternative using line 11 around 15 minutes. This makes Bojnice easy during operating hours, but the last return and exact stop should be checked before dinner or spa visits.
Longer Routes
Busbud’s Prievidza page shows Bratislava-Prievidza, Prague-Prievidza, Trenčín-Prievidza and Košice-Prievidza as route contexts, with prices and durations varying by date/operator. Rome2rio’s Prievidza-Prague bus page points to online tickets through FlixBus and gives a long-distance context of roughly 6 hours for the quickest route. For international or late-night routes, always use the operator ticket as the source of truth.
Route Planning Table
| Route | Practical mode | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Prievidza to Bojnice | MHD bus or taxi | Bus around 10-15 minutes; taxi is simple for late return. |
| Prievidza to Bratislava | Train via Trnava or bus | Rail is often comfortable and around three hours. |
| Prievidza to Trenčín | Regional bus/car; rail may require changes | Useful for Vienna Airport bus connections. |
| Prievidza to Vienna Airport | Bus via Trenčín or rail via Bratislava | Longer, but strong flight choice. |
| Prievidza to Prague | Long-distance bus | Check FlixBus/booking platform for exact platform and time. |
Taxis, Apps And Private Transfers
Taxis are important in Prievidza because the city pairs with Bojnice and because airports are far enough that public transport can involve transfers. Local taxi pricing is fragmented by operator, but several sources give practical benchmarks.
Taxi Bojnice publishes a Prievidza district price list with start fee €0.50, tariff 1 at €1.00 per km, tariff 2 at €1.50 per km and waiting at €0.20 per minute. ESO Taxi lists airport transfers from the Prievidza/Bojnice area: Bratislava €127, Schwechat/Vienna €175, Krakow €169, and other airports at €0.70 per km. The Taxi Prievidza app listing says it supports ordering a taxi in Prievidza, tracking the driver and paying by cash or card. Bolt also has a Prievidza city page, so app availability should be checked live.
Taxi Benchmarks
| Trip | Benchmark | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Short city ride | Local operators advertise city rides from around €2.50-€3.00 | Good for station to hotel or centre to terminal. |
| Prievidza-Bojnice | Rome2rio/route pages place taxi around €4-€6 for the short ride | Good late-evening alternative to MHD. |
| District taxi | €0.50 start, €1.00-€1.50/km, €0.20/min waiting from Taxi Bojnice | Useful meter-style benchmark. |
| Bratislava airport transfer | ESO Taxi €127; MyTransfers premium example €385 | Shows huge gap between local taxi and premium airport-service pricing. |
| Vienna airport transfer | ESO Taxi €175; other premium providers higher | Compare against train/bus before booking. |
Taxi Use Cases
Use taxi for:
- Late arrivals at the rail/bus district.
- Bojnice castle or spa when the bus timetable is weak.
- Airport transfer when a public route would require multiple changes.
- Families with luggage.
- Rural hotel or village addresses outside MHD routes.
Best Areas And Operating Bases
| Area | Best for | Transport logic |
|---|---|---|
| Rail/bus district around Terézie Vansovej | Early train, early bus, one-night transit | Closest to both main transport anchors. |
| Central Prievidza | General stay, restaurants, errands | Easy taxi or local bus to station and Bojnice. |
| Bojnice centre | Castle, spa, zoo, leisure stay | Bus/taxi to Prievidza rail and bus terminal. |
| Bojnice-kúpele / spa side | Spa stay, quiet lodging | Confirm evening taxi and bus options. |
| Handlová / Nováky side | Business, industrial visits, regional routes | Better with car or direct regional bus. |
| Bratislava or Vienna overnight | Very early flight | Avoids a pre-dawn multi-leg transfer. |
One-Night Transit
If the goal is simply to continue next morning, stay near Terézie Vansovej. If the goal is Bojnice Castle, stay in Bojnice and use taxi/bus to connect to Prievidza.
Airport Departure Strategy
For a morning flight from BTS or VIE, do not underestimate the first leg out of Prievidza. A late-evening transfer to Bratislava or Vienna the night before can be calmer than a chain of early buses and trains.
First-Time Checklist
- Do not treat Sliač or Prievidza Airport as guaranteed scheduled-airline gateways.
- Compare Bratislava BTS and Vienna VIE by full door-to-door time.
- For BTS, use airport bus 61 to Bratislava transport hubs, then ZSSK toward Prievidza.
- For VIE, compare bus via Trenčín with rail via Vienna/Bratislava/Trnava.
- Save Prievidza rail hub at T. Vansovej 504/9.
- Save Autobusová stanica Prievidza at Terézie Vansovej 1.
- Use SAD Prievidza and Ubian for MHD and regional bus times.
- Use €0.60 electronic-wallet and €0.80 cash/card local fare benchmarks from IMHD.
- For Bojnice, check line 90 or line 11 timings before leaving.
- For taxis, compare local city ride quotes, per-km rates and airport fixed fares before booking.
