Érd Transport Hub

Érd is best understood as a Budapest-area commuter transport hub, not as a standalone airport city. The first-day plan is built around Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD), BKK airport buses, Budapest Kelenföld rail links, MÁV rail points in Érd, the Érd alsó combined rail/road hub, Volánbusz regional services, Főtaxi and short local taxi rides. The visitor question is usually not “which terminal is downtown?” but “which Érd stop is closest to my address, and should I route through Kelenföld or take a taxi?”

Budapest Airport is the only air gateway most travelers need to consider. The earlier straight-line distance of about 26.5 km is useful as a broad anchor, but the road route and public route are longer. Rome2Rio’s current airport-to-Érd station page gives a road distance around 38.9 km and shows the fastest driving option at about 37 minutes, while public routing usually uses airport bus plus Budapest rail or regional bus. That makes Érd close enough for a taxi when luggage or timing matters, but far enough that the right public route can save real money.

Budapest Airport basics

Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport is the right airport for Érd. The airport’s official transport pages cover public buses, taxi, car rental and onward ground movement. Because Érd is southwest of Budapest while BUD is southeast/east of the city, the public route is rarely a single straight line. Most travelers either go BUD to Budapest and then outward to Érd, or take a taxi/private transfer directly across the southern side of the metropolitan area.

For a solo traveler in daytime, public transport can be excellent. For two or more people with luggage, an airport taxi becomes competitive because the ride avoids multiple transfers and the final Érd address may not be beside a rail point. For late arrivals, a taxi or hotel-arranged driver is often the better first move.

100E Airport Express plus Érd connection

BKK says bus 100E Airport Express runs between Liszt Ferenc International Airport and Deák Ferenc tér via Kálvin tér, with a journey time to the city center of about 40 minutes. It operates around the clock, seven days a week, with frequent daytime service and lower night frequency. BKK lists the airport shuttle bus single ticket at 2500 HUF, available via bankcard on the bus, BudapestGO, customer service centers, ticket offices and vending machines.

For Érd this is not always the most direct route, because 100E aims at central Budapest. It is useful if you stay in Budapest first, need the city center, or want a very simple signed airport route before switching to rail. If you are going straight to Érd, compare 100E to a route using 200E, rail, Kelenföld or a taxi.

200E and rail logic

BKK says bus 200E operates 24 hours a day according to the usual schedule, but the 100E airport ticket is not accepted on 200E. BKK’s 200E airport bus extension ticket page says the extension ticket is valid for a single ride on line 200E between Ferihegy rail point and Liszt Ferenc Airport 2, directly before or after a train ride with a rail ticket, and it is not valid on 100E.

This matters for Érd because some cheaper airport routes can combine 200E with rail rather than paying for 100E into the city center. However, that route is more complex with luggage. If you are unfamiliar with Budapest, the simple strategy is: use BudapestGO or MÁVPlusz for door-to-door planning, then decide whether saving money is worth the transfer count.

Airport to Érd via Kelenföld

For many rail-based routes, Kelenföld is the practical Budapest-side transfer point. Rome2Rio describes a public route from Budapest Airport to Érd station via Kelenföld vasútállomás taking about 1 hour 21 minutes and costing roughly 3050-3150 HUF in its current sample. Treat that as a route idea, not a fixed fare promise. Use MÁV, BKK and MÁVPlusz on the travel day for the exact sequence.

The useful pattern is airport bus to Budapest, city transit or rail toward Kelenföld, then MÁV rail toward the right Érd stop. If the final address is near Érd alsó, Érd felső, Érdliget or Érd station, rail can work very well. If the final address is up a hill, away from stops or in suburban streets, add a local taxi from the rail point.

Airport taxi to Érd

Budapest Airport’s taxi page identifies Főtaxi as the airport taxi provider, and Főtaxi says its stands are located at exits of Terminals 2A and 2B. Főtaxi’s airport page explains the voucher process: passengers can use the taxi office in baggage claim, self-service kiosk, or final voucher outside each terminal; the voucher includes taxi number, destination, tariff and estimated price according to traffic and distance.

Főtaxi lists the regulated Hungarian taxi tariff as 1100 HUF basic fee, 440 HUF per kilometer and 110 HUF per minute waiting. It says a ride to Budapest city center typically costs around 7200 HUF depending on traffic. Érd is a different direction and a longer metropolitan ride than downtown Budapest, so use the tariff and voucher estimate rather than the city-center example. For an airport-to-Érd ride around 39 km plus time, expect materially more than the downtown estimate.

Car rental at BUD

Budapest Airport has an official car-rental page with airport rental partners. Rental makes sense if Érd is a base for Buda side suburbs, Lake Velence, Székesfehérvár, the Danube Bend by car, business parks or multiple family addresses. It is less useful if you are only moving between BUD, Érd and central Budapest, because rail and taxi can cover that without parking stress.

Érd Rail And Road Hubs

Érd alsó

Érd alsó is the most important visitor-facing local hub because it combines rail and road functions. MÁV lists “Érd alsó vasútállomás és autóbusz-állomás” at 2030 Érd, Budai út 13. The page says there is a road-service ticket office and a rail point without ticket office, domestic ticket sale, personal customer service, ticket machine, accessibility features, parking nearby and bicycle storage. It lists the road ticket office as Monday-Friday 06:00-18:00, weekends and holidays 06:00-16:00, with a waiting room open daily 04:00-23:30 and toilets daily 06:00-21:00.

This is the stop to check first when the accommodation or appointment is in central Érd. It is also the right place to think about if you need both rail and Volánbusz/MÁV regional road services. Do not assume it is the same as Érd station or Érd felső.

Érd felső

MÁV lists Érd felső at 2030 Érd, Diósdi út 21. The page identifies rail service plus ticket office, domestic ticket sale, machine ticket issue, ticket vending machine, parking near the rail point and bicycle storage. MÁV also lists MÁVDIREKT information numbers +36 (1) 3 49 49 49 and +36 (20/30/70) 499 4999.

Érd felső can be better for the town center side, local errands and some hotels/apartments. It is close enough to Érd alsó in the city fabric that the choice can look minor on a map, but with luggage and hills, the exact stop still matters.

Érdliget

MÁV lists Érdliget at 2030 Érd, Temes u. 2. It is a rail point without ticket office, with ticket-vending machine, parking nearby and bicycle storage. Use Érdliget when the final address is in Érdliget or the western/southwestern residential side. It is not the default for central Érd.

Érd station

MÁV lists Érd at 2030 Érd, Tolmács 3. It is a rail point without ticket office and with ticket-vending machine. It can be useful for addresses in the southwest and for rail routing where the timetable points there. Again, the practical rule is to choose the stop by neighborhood, not by the most generic name.

MÁVPlusz, MÁV tickets and Menetrendek

MÁV pages link to ticket purchase at jegy.mav.hu and the MÁVPlusz map/timetable planner. Menetrendek.hu provides national door-to-door search across MÁV, Volán, BKK, HÉV and many local systems. For Érd, use these tools together because a good route may combine BKK airport service, Budapest city transit, MÁV rail and regional road service.

Local And Regional Road Services

Volánbusz and MÁV road network

Volánbusz/MÁV regional road services matter in Érd because not every address is rail-close. MÁV’s Érd alsó page explicitly includes the road terminal function and ticket office. MÁV timetable pages also show bus and Budapest agglomeration categories, while MÁVPlusz covers train, Volán bus, HÉV and local journeys.

Use regional road services for Érd neighborhoods away from the rail line, for links toward Sóskút, Pusztazámor, Diósd, Tárnok and other nearby towns, and when a Budapest-side bus route is more direct than rail.

Route 705 and Budapest side

BudapestGO route data shows line 705 linking Dunaújváros, Budapest Népliget, Budafoki út / Dombóvári út, Növény utca and Érd road terminal in current route listings. For a traveler, that means some Érd movements are better understood as regional road services through Budapest’s southern side, not only as rail trips.

For airport travel, however, do not force a 705-style route unless the planner shows it clearly. Airport-to-Érd public routing can involve several changes, and the route that looks cheapest may be annoying with suitcases.

Tickets And Fares

BKK fares

BKK’s price page lists a single ticket at 500 HUF, a single ticket bought on the spot at 700 HUF, a block of 10 tickets at 4500 HUF, the airport shuttle bus single ticket at 2500 HUF, a 30-minute ticket at 600 HUF, a 90-minute ticket at 850 HUF, a 24-hour Budapest travelcard at 2750 HUF, a 72-hour travelcard at 5750 HUF, a monthly Budapest pass at 8950 HUF, and a full-price Pest County Pass at 9450 HUF.

This matters because Érd is in Pest County outside Budapest proper. A Budapest city ticket alone may not cover the whole suburban/regional ride. Use the route planner fare result, especially if combining BKK, MÁV and Volánbusz.

Airport tickets

BKK’s 100E Airport Express uses the 2500 HUF airport shuttle bus single ticket or an eligible add-on airport shuttle bus single ticket. The add-on ticket is 1000 HUF in BudapestGO for travelers who hold a valid Budapest-pass, Pest County Pass or Hungary Pass, with exceptions noted by BKK.

For 200E, the 100E airport ticket is not accepted. Use a valid ordinary BKK ticket/pass or the special 200E extension ticket when connecting directly to/from a rail ride at Ferihegy under the ticket conditions.

MÁV and county passes

For rail and regional bus, use MÁV ticketing, MÁVPlusz or Menetrendek to confirm the exact fare. The Pest County Pass can be valuable for a longer stay involving Érd and Budapest-area regional trips, but a short visitor may only need single tickets. The right product depends on how many times you cross the Budapest boundary.

Taxis And App Rides

Főtaxi from the airport

For BUD arrivals, Főtaxi is the official airport taxi provider. Use the stands outside Terminals 2A and 2B and keep the voucher. The voucher is useful if you leave something in the car or need to make a complaint. Főtaxi’s booking number is +36 1 222 2222 and the airport page lists the tariff.

Taxi is best for late arrivals, family luggage, hotels away from rail points, or direct airport-to-Érd movement. For a solo daytime traveler staying near Érd alsó, public transport may be better value.

Local Érd taxi use

Inside Érd, taxi is useful for the last 1-4 km after rail, especially if the address is in a residential neighborhood. Ask the host or hotel for a local taxi number and normal fare range. Budapest taxi apps may work, but supply can be thinner outside the core city area, so do not rely on instant pickup for an early flight unless you prebook.

Airport return

For an early BUD departure, prebook. If staying near Érd alsó or Érd felső, the public route can work, but a taxi eliminates the risk of missed rail/bus connections before dawn. Use the Főtaxi tariff, app quote or hotel-arranged transfer quote to compare.

Best Areas To Stay

Central Érd near Érd alsó and Érd felső

Best for first stays, local errands and mixed rail/road access. This is the most forgiving base if you need both Budapest and Érd.

Érdliget

Best for residential stays, family visits and addresses close to Érdliget. Check last rail times before booking if you plan late Budapest evenings.

Southwest near Érd station

Best when the final address or rail timetable points to Érd station. Less convenient for central errands unless your host is nearby.

Budapest Kelenföld

Best for travelers who need Érd by day but Budapest by night, or who want easier airport/public routing. Kelenföld can be a smarter base than central Pest if Érd is the repeated destination.

BUD airport overnight

Best for very early flights. Érd is close enough for a taxi, but airport hotels remove the early-morning risk.

Practical Plans

BUD to Érd alsó by public transport

Use BKK/BudapestGO or MÁVPlusz to route from the airport to Kelenföld or another rail handoff, then continue to Érd alsó. Buy the correct BKK ticket for the airport leg and the correct MÁV/regional ticket for the Érd leg.

BUD to Érd by taxi

Use Főtaxi at Terminal 2A/2B, keep the voucher and expect the fare to follow 1100 HUF start, 440 HUF per kilometer and 110 HUF per minute waiting. Ask for the estimate to your exact Érd address.

Érd to central Budapest

Use the closest MÁV point or regional road service. If you plan to move around Budapest after arrival, choose the right BKK ticket or pass separately from the regional fare.

Érd to BUD for an early flight

Prebook taxi or choose an airport overnight. Public routing can work, but missed first connections are expensive when a flight is involved.

Érd as a car base

Rent at BUD only if the trip includes multiple suburban or countryside stops. For Budapest sightseeing, car rental is usually more burden than benefit.

Érd alsó, Érd felső, Érdliget and Érd are different points. Match the stop to the exact address.

Using a Budapest-only ticket beyond Budapest

Érd is outside Budapest proper. Check the fare result when crossing into Pest County/regional services.

Taking 100E when Kelenföld routing is better

100E is excellent for central Budapest. It is not automatically the best route to Érd.

Assuming an airport taxi to Érd costs the same as downtown Budapest

Főtaxi’s city-center example is not an Érd quote. Érd is a longer metropolitan ride.

Ignoring the last local leg

The rail trip can be easy, but the final neighborhood transfer may still need taxi, host pickup or a local bus.
