To get from Toronto to Niagara Falls without a car, compare a direct GO train with a Lakeshore West train to Burlington followed by GO bus 12. From Toronto Pearson Airport, compare UP Express via Union Station with GO bus 40 connecting to bus 12 at Dundas Street and Highway 407. Then plan the local ride from your Niagara arrival point to the waterfalls.

September 2026 service change: GO has announced changes to weekday Niagara trains from 8 September, including removal of a morning Toronto departure and some Niagara-to-Toronto departures. The operator recommends bus 12 with a Lakeshore West connection at Burlington. Recheck both directions even if you have used this route before. Read GO’s dated service notice.
Which route fits your trip?
- Starting in downtown Toronto: look for a suitable direct Niagara train first, then compare the Burlington connection.
- Landing at Pearson and visiting Toronto too: UP Express brings you to Union, where you can continue by GO.
- Landing at Pearson and heading straight to Niagara: compare the two-GO-bus option before committing to the downtown transfer.
Compare the whole journey: waiting, transfers, your Niagara hotel or attraction, and the return. The route with fewer vehicles may still leave later. For a first visit, make your first sightseeing booking flexible enough to absorb a missed connection.
Toronto Union to Niagara Falls by GO train and bus
Option 1: a direct Niagara-bound GO train
Search Union Station to Niagara Falls GO for your date. Open the itinerary and confirm that it is a through train to Niagara Falls. A Lakeshore West departure can serve a different destination, and a search result may include a bus transfer. GO provides Niagara service year-round, but the usable departures vary with the timetable and planned work. Check GO’s Niagara travel guide.
At Union, read the departure screens for your actual train and platform. GO specifically warns that platforms and train lengths can change; ask staff if you are unsure where to wait. See current boarding reminders.
Option 2: Lakeshore West to Burlington, then GO bus 12
- Choose a Lakeshore West train that stops at Burlington GO.
- Follow station signs to the bus connection and confirm the boarding bay for your selected Niagara-bound route 12 trip.
- Continue to Niagara Falls Bus Terminal, then make the local connection to your destination.
This is the alternative published by GO when the Niagara train is unavailable. Allow time to move between rail and bus boarding areas with your bags; do not assume an instant transfer. Read the official Burlington connection instructions.
Pearson Airport to Niagara Falls via UP Express and Union
Route: Pearson Terminal 1 → UP Express → Union Station → GO to Niagara → local transport.
UP Express has its airport station in Terminal 1. If you land at Terminal 3, use the airport’s free Terminal Link connection to Terminal 1, following signs and any service-change instructions. Terminal Link and UP Express are separate trains with different jobs. Find the UP platform at Pearson. Check Terminal Link access.
After reaching Union, follow signs for your GO departure. The UP platform is in the Skywalk area; you still need to reach the correct GO concourse and platform. Build this station transfer into your plan, particularly with a stroller or luggage. See Union’s UP station information.
UP Express ends at Union; it does not take you all the way to Niagara. Your onward GO journey may be direct or involve Burlington. UP and GO charge separate fares. When using PRESTO, GO instructs travellers to tap on and off separately for each service. Check GO and UP airport connections.
Pearson to Niagara Falls by GO bus 40 and bus 12
Route: Pearson Terminal 1 → GO 40 toward Hamilton → Dundas Street & Highway 407 Park & Ride → Niagara-bound GO 12 → Niagara Falls Bus Terminal.
GO lists the Burlington stop at Dundas & Highway 407 Park & Ride on route 40. Its route 12 schedule also serves this interchange. Choose a dated journey that connects there and continues to the Niagara terminal: branches and stopping patterns matter. Check route 40’s airport stops. Find the route 12 and 40 schedules.
Two easy mistakes: this park-and-ride is different from Burlington GO railway station. It is also different from Highway 407 Bus Terminal, another stop on route 40. Match the full stop name in your itinerary.
Pearson currently lists GO boarding at Terminal 1, Ground Level, columns Q2–Q4. Follow the airport’s current signs and verify the bus destination before boarding. The airport’s displayed departures may be scheduled times rather than actual departures. Check Pearson’s GO bus page and stop map.
This option avoids travelling through downtown Toronto. Whether it is quicker depends on your arrival and connection times. Start your search when you realistically expect to reach ground transport, allowing for immigration, baggage collection and the walk from arrivals.
Arriving in Niagara: the station is not the waterfall
The Canadian rail station is at 4267 Bridge Street. The published bus-terminal address is 4555 Erie Avenue, across the street from the rail station. GO also has a Stanley Avenue/Highway 420 stop, so check which Niagara stop your trip uses. These are different arrival points. See the official tourism arrival guide.
The station precinct is being redeveloped. Use the current stop details and signs on arrival instead of relying on an old photograph of a bus bay. Read Niagara Region’s station project information.
For the Horseshoe Falls, look for the appropriate southbound WEGO connection toward Table Rock Centre. Niagara Parks describes the train-to-WEGO transfer as the last part of its GO package. Confirm the day’s pickup and service before leaving the arrival area. Check the GO and WEGO connection.
For a hotel, enter the full address rather than just “Niagara Falls.” WEGO’s Green and Blue services meet at Table Rock, but your hotel may require another connection or walk. GO, UP and WEGO: buy the right combination
A GO fare can cover a GO train, GO bus or a combination for the selected journey. Check your origin, destination, travel day and passenger categories in the official GO fare information.
- Ordinary GO e-tickets and passes: UP Express and Niagara WEGO are not included. The GO-only weekend pass is different from a GO+WEGO package.
- GO+WEGO packages: compare the specific one-day or two-day product, weekday or weekend validity, originating stop, local transport and any Incline inclusion. Read the purchase and activation instructions for that package. Compare the current package terms.
- Travelling with children: GO’s child policy and WEGO’s child policy differ. Free travel on GO does not make every part of the trip free.
GO e-tickets require a smartphone, an internet connection for inspection and a five-minute activation period. A screenshot or printout is not a valid GO e-ticket. Keep power and data available; saving an itinerary offline is useful, but it does not replace valid fare proof. Read GO’s e-ticket rules before buying. Check WEGO’s separate child and pass rules.
Plan your return before booking an evening attraction
The last Niagara train is only one part of the question. You must reach its station, make any onward transfer and get to your hotel or airport. A later bus connection may work, or your chosen date may require an earlier finish. Use the GO trip planner for the complete direction home.
- Set the real endpoint: Union, a Toronto hotel, or Pearson Terminal 1 are different journeys.
- Find a workable return: check direct trains and bus 12 connections, including any GO 40 or UP leg.
- Work backwards from departure: add the local bus or walk from your last attraction and enough time to find the platform or bay.
- Keep an alternative: know what you will do if you miss that connection, including whether staying overnight is practical.
Before choosing illumination, dinner or a show, decide when you must leave it. For a flight, also include the airline’s required airport arrival time and a sensible disruption allowance. Check GO service notices again before travelling, and UP’s own operating hours if returning via Union.
What changes with the season, luggage or mobility needs?
A year-round transport link does not mean an identical timetable every day. Weekends, holidays, engineering work and seasonal visitor services can change your choices. GO warns that downloaded PDFs may lag behind current departures; use the schedule page’s trip-planning links for the latest information.
With luggage, choose an itinerary you can manage comfortably through every transfer. Ask your hotel about storing bags before check-in; do not assume an attraction or station has luggage storage. Going to the US side? Add a separate border stage
The GO routes described here arrive in Canada. They do not deliver you to Niagara Falls State Park in New York. Even rail-booking names can be confusing: Amtrak distinguishes Niagara Falls, ON (NFS) from Niagara Falls, NY (NFL).
Rainbow Bridge has a pedestrian crossing. The Bridge Commission does not permit pedestrians on the Whirlpool or Lewiston–Queenston bridges. Before adding a US visit, check the official document guidance for your nationality and situation, including your ability to re-enter Canada, and leave time for both crossings. Can I take one train from Pearson straight to Niagara Falls?
The UP-and-GO itinerary requires a change at Union, and may require another at Burlington. The two-GO-bus alternative changes at Dundas Street and Highway 407. Compare both for your actual arrival time.
Does a direct Niagara train always suit a day trip?
No. Check when it arrives and how you will return. A route via Burlington may fit your sightseeing day better.
Can I walk from the station to the falls?
Plan the walk to your specific viewpoint, not just the city name. Compare the mapped distance with your luggage, mobility and weather, and keep a local transport alternative.
Is the GO weekend pass the same as GO+WEGO?
No. Check the product name and inclusions. Ordinary GO e-tickets and passes exclude WEGO and UP Express.
