How to Get From Regina Airport to Downtown

The airport is only a few kilometres from central Regina. That makes the decision less about distance than schedule, luggage and weather.

Option 1: Regina Transit Route 24

Route 24 links YQR with central Regina on weekdays only. The airport stop is Stop #1660. The downtown-side timing point is Albert Street at Victoria Avenue, close to the Cornwall Centre transit area and onward downtown routes.

The official city timetable checked on August 11, 2026 shows airport-to-downtown departures every 20 minutes in the early morning, a long midday break, 40-minute evening service, then 20-minute late-evening service. In practical terms:

• Airport departures run from approximately 5:55 a.m. to 8:55 a.m. every 20 minutes.
• Service resumes from approximately 4:15 p.m. to 8:55 p.m. every 40 minutes.
• Late service runs from approximately 9:15 p.m. to 11:55 p.m. every 20 minutes.
• There is no scheduled Saturday or Sunday Route 24 service.

The trip from YQR to Albert Street at Victoria Avenue is scheduled at roughly 20 minutes. Check the live timetable before leaving baggage claim because arriving during the midday gap can turn a cheap plan into a long wait.

Route 24 Fares and Payment

Regina Transit fares effective in 2026 are:

Electronic payment is the smart choice for a transfer. Regina Transit accepts the Umo app/card, contactless debit or credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. A second bus boarded within 90 minutes is treated as a transfer when the same electronic payment method is used. Cash fares do not include a transfer, so a cash passenger changing buses pays again.

YQR lists three licensed taxi companies:

Regina taxis are metered. A third-party fare calculator estimated about C$11.17 between downtown and YQR in May 2026, but travellers should treat that as a baseline rather than a guaranteed fare. Traffic, exact hotel location, waiting time and tip can raise the total; a practical central-Regina planning budget is approximately C$15-C$25.

Option 3: Uber

Uber is authorized for YQR pickup and drop-off. Except for Capital Cabs, commercial vehicles including Uber collect passengers in the commercial lane in the short-term parking lot across from the arrivals doors. Follow the pickup instructions in the app and compare the live price with a taxi when demand is high.

Which Airport Transfer Is Best?

Use Route 24 when it is running, the weather is manageable and your destination is downtown or near a useful connection. Use a taxi or Uber for weekend arrivals, the midday Route 24 gap, late-night hotel access, families, mobility needs or more than one large bag. Because central Regina is close to YQR, splitting a car fare between two or three passengers can erase much of the bus's price advantage.

FlixBus changed Regina's role in Prairie travel. From May 7, 2026, three interconnected lines made the city a transfer point between Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba:

Westbound services also open practical trips to Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, while the Manitoba line covers Brandon and Winnipeg. The Edmonton line reaches Saskatoon before continuing north. Getting From YQR to the FlixBus Stop

The simplest connection is a direct taxi or Uber from YQR to Victoria Square. For a cheaper weekday transfer:

1. Take Route 24 from YQR to central Regina.
2. Transfer near Cornwall Centre to Route 50 Victoria Avenue Express.
3. Leave Route 50 at Victoria Square Mall, Stop #0819.
4. Walk through the parking area to the east-side FlixBus boarding point near JYSK.

Route 50 is scheduled to take roughly 13 minutes from Cornwall Centre to Victoria Square at many times of day. Use one electronic payment method so the connection can fall inside Regina Transit's 90-minute transfer window. Rider Express advertises Wi-Fi, power outlets, reclining seats, seatbelts and onboard washrooms on its coach services. It asks passengers to be at the stop at least 15 minutes before departure and warns that weather and road conditions can affect Prairie schedules.

For a rough 2026 price benchmark, Rider Express advertised the Edmonton-Regina corridor from about C$130 one way and the Winnipeg-Regina corridor from about C$60 one way on its homepage when checked. These are promotional corridor examples, not guaranteed reverse-direction quotes; the live booking result for the chosen date is the price that matters.

FlixBus or Rider Express: Which Is Better?

Neither operator wins every route.

Choose FlixBus first for a current direct comparison toward Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, Calgary, Brandon or Winnipeg. Its Victoria Square stop also connects cleanly to Route 50 from downtown.

Choose Rider Express first when travelling to the smaller Highway 11 and Highway 16 communities between Regina, Saskatoon and Edmonton, or communities such as Indian Head, Whitewood, Moosomin, Virden and Portage la Prairie on the Winnipeg corridor.

For Saskatoon, Edmonton and Winnipeg, compare both operators on the exact day. The cheapest ticket is not automatically the best: a better departure time, central arrival stop, shorter layover or included baggage can be worth more than a small fare difference.

Regina Transit Beyond the Airport

Regina Transit operates a bus-only city network; there is no subway or light rail. Cornwall Centre and the surrounding downtown stops form the most useful interchange zone for visitors.

Compare the total, not just the headline daily rate: airport fees, taxes, winter tires, insurance, mileage, additional drivers and one-way drop charges can change the winner. Photograph the vehicle at pickup and confirm the fuel and winter-tire terms in writing.

Parking at YQR

Official airport parking rates checked in August 2026 are:

A seven-day long-term stay is therefore listed at C$89, while 14 days totals C$138. Long-term parking includes complimentary block-heater plug-ins and dedicated EV stalls. The overflow lot uses the same rates and, when activated, includes a courtesy ride to the terminal.

No Passenger Train Station in Regina

Regina has historic railway infrastructure but no current intercity passenger rail station. Do not plan an airport-to-Amtrak-style transfer in the city.

The nearest practical VIA Rail stop is Melville, about 144 km northeast of Regina, at Main Street and 1st Avenue. It is served by VIA Rail's long-distance Canadian. Reaching it requires a separate car, taxi or pre-arranged shuttle, and the road transfer must be built around a low-frequency train timetable. Downtown Regina is the most flexible base for Route 24, Cornwall Centre connections, the Rider Express main stop and central attractions. It is best for travellers without a car.

East Regina near Victoria Square is practical for an early FlixBus departure, but less convenient for walking around the historic centre. Confirm whether a hotel is genuinely close to the boarding side of the shopping centre rather than merely carrying an east-Regina address.

Harbour Landing and airport-area accommodation suit late arrivals, early flights and travellers renting a car. They are less convenient for intercity coach departures unless the hotel provides a shuttle or the traveller budgets for a taxi.

YQR to Downtown Hotel

On a weekday during Route 24 operating windows, take the airport bus and pay C$3.20 electronically. On weekends, during the midday gap or with heavy luggage, take a taxi or Uber. Download the hotel pin before landing in case mobile service is slow.

YQR to FlixBus

Use a direct taxi or Uber when the coach ticket is fixed. The all-transit option is Route 24 to downtown plus Route 50 to Victoria Square, but it only works when Route 24 is running and the flight arrives on time. Never book a tight flight-to-bus connection on separate tickets.

YQR to Rider Express

For the Broad Street main stop, a taxi or Uber is simplest. Route 24 can reduce the cost by bringing the traveller downtown, but the final walk or local connection depends on luggage, weather and the exact pickup point printed on the ticket. For Regina East or Mosaic Stadium, do not assume the Broad Street plan applies.

FlixBus to Downtown Regina

Walk from the Victoria Square boarding area to the Route 50 stop at the mall and ride west toward Cornwall Centre. A taxi or rideshare is better after a long coach trip with large luggage, especially late at night.

Regina to Saskatoon

Compare FlixBus and Rider Express. FlixBus displayed a fastest trip of 2 hours 45 minutes from C$38.98 when checked. Rider Express serves more intermediate Highway 11 communities and may offer a more useful stop or departure time.

Regina to Winnipeg

Compare the direct FlixBus corridor with Rider Express. FlixBus displayed an eight-hour minimum trip from C$72.98. Rider Express serves Indian Head, Whitewood, Moosomin, Virden, Brandon and Portage la Prairie before Winnipeg East. The better ticket depends heavily on departure time and the final Winnipeg stop.

Regina to Calgary
