Warsaw Museums: Opening Hours, Tickets and Transport

Official visitor information checked 6 September 2026. Warsaw rewards a museum day with room to breathe. Royal rooms, art galleries, Jewish history and the story of the 1944 uprising are not interchangeable attractions. Choose one substantial visit as your anchor, then build the transport and the rest of the day around it.

Below are eight places to consider, their published hours and admission references, plus closures that can change a September itinerary. All times are local to Warsaw. Prices are in Polish złoty (PLN), not guaranteed ticket quotes. Your dated ticket, current museum notices and concession eligibility take priority. Suggested visiting times and pairings are our editorial advice.

Find the right museum for your day

Royal Castle: choose the route you actually want

Hours: Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00, last entry 17:00; Monday closed. Admission: Royal Route 60 PLN adult / 45 PLN reduced; the broader Castle Route is 95 / 75 PLN. Regular tickets for these routes include an audioguide.

Wednesday’s free visit follows a limited route, not every room covered by a paid Castle Route ticket. Collect the limited free tickets on the day; audio costs extra. Check the Castle’s official route descriptions, hours and prices.

Our planning advice: allow roughly 90 minutes to two and a half hours, depending on the chosen route. Begin in Castle Square and leave room for an unhurried Old Town walk afterward. A second timed museum immediately after the Castle is an unnecessary constraint.

POLIN: make room for the whole story

Address: Anielewicza 6. Hours: Monday, Wednesday–Friday and Sunday 10:00–18:00; Saturday 10:00–20:00; Tuesday closed. Entry to the core exhibition ends two hours before closing.

Admission: the listed combined ticket is 45 PLN adult / 35 PLN reduced, including the core exhibition, audioguide, temporary exhibition and Legacy Gallery. The 95 PLN family ticket has a limit of two adults and four children up to 18. Thursday admission to the core and temporary exhibitions is free. Our planning advice: allow around three hours. POLIN is not only a Holocaust museum: follow the earlier galleries to give later events context. Avoid pairing it with another emotionally demanding visit simply because both offer free Thursday admission.

Warsaw Rising Museum: leave time to reflect

Address: Grzybowska 79. Hours: Monday and Wednesday–Friday 08:00–18:00; weekends 10:00–18:00; Tuesday closed. Ticket sales finish 30 minutes before closing.

Admission: 35 PLN adult / 30 PLN reduced; Thursday entry is free. Audioguide hire is listed at 13 PLN, or 10 PLN for smartphone access. Verify the museum’s visitor information before booking.

This museum concerns the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, not the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of 1943. Treat the Wola visit as an anchor rather than a short detour from the Old Town. Our recommendation is to leave a quiet walk or meal afterward; do not use the ticket-office deadline as your target arrival time.

National Museum: choose a thread through the galleries

Address: Aleje Jerozolimskie 3. Hours: Tuesday–Sunday 10:00–18:00, Friday until 20:00; Monday closed. Ticket offices close 45 minutes before the galleries.

Admission: permanent galleries 30 PLN adult / 15 PLN reduced, free on Tuesdays. Temporary exhibitions have separate tariffs. Friday’s published 17:00–20:00 offer gives a 50% reduction on the listed admission tickets, excluding 1 PLN tickets; discounts cannot be combined. Our planning advice: choose a period or medium instead of trying to see everything. A selective art visit can be satisfying even when you have only part of an afternoon. For the museum’s online audio, bring your own phone and headphones; loan headsets are not provided.

Copernicus: science and the planetarium are separate plans

September exhibition hours: Monday–Thursday 09:00–18:00, Friday 09:00–20:00, weekends 09:00–19:00. Exhibitions are closed on 7, 14 and 21 September. Ticket offices close one hour earlier than the exhibitions. The planetarium is closed from 1 September through 11 October 2026. Use the current official Polish calendar, including its dated exceptions.

Exhibition admission: adult 48 PLN on weekdays or 50 PLN on weekends/holidays; reduced 34 / 36 PLN. A planetarium visit needs a separate ticket when it is operating. Check the official ticket prices and entry rules for your group and date.

Our planning advice: make Powiśle a half-day with science, a riverfront pause and a meal. Do not promise a planetarium show as an automatic part of a science-centre visit. Book the actual date and leave time for the journey.

Museum of Modern Art: a central contemporary-art stop

Address: Marszałkowska 103. Hours: Tuesday–Thursday and Saturday 11:00–19:00; Friday 11:00–20:00; Sunday 11:00–18:00; Monday closed. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. A special closure is announced for 15 October 2026.

Admission: the exhibition tariff is 40 PLN adult / 30 PLN reduced; Gallery A on the ground floor is free. After 18:00, the listed tariff is 25 / 15 PLN on days the museum remains open. Our planning advice: combine a focused exhibition with a central-city walk. Give the art a clear place in the day instead of squeezing it into the last few minutes before closing.

Neon Museum: use the current address, not an old Praga pin

Address: Palace of Culture and Science, Plac Defilad 1, floor 4. The museum directs visitors to the main entrance from Marszałkowska and side lifts from level −1. Check its access instructions if using a wheelchair.

Hours: Monday–Thursday and Sunday 11:00–18:00; Friday–Saturday 11:00–19:00. Admission: 25 PLN adult / 18 PLN reduced; children under six enter free. Verify the Neon Museum’s official visitor page.

Our planning advice: this is a natural design-focused addition to a central-city day. It does not share the Palace’s viewing-terrace ticket or evening schedule. Check the correct lift and entrance rather than following an outdated listing to the former Praga address.

Stacja Muzeum: connect the city to its railway story

Address: Towarowa 3. Hours: 10:00–18:00 except Tuesdays; last entry 17:30. The museum homepage adds a closure on 20 September 2026.

Admission: 25 PLN adult / 16 PLN reduced; Mondays are free. The tariff also lists a concession for eligible Koleje Mazowieckie tickets or purchase receipts. Do not assume a city ticket or another operator’s ticket qualifies: check the museum tariff and linked conditions.

Transport and access: the museum identifies Plac Zawiszy, Warszawa Ochota, Warszawa Główna and Warszawa Ochota WKD as useful approaches. These are different stops and stations: use the one actually served by your journey. Historic-site barriers remain; arrange ramp assistance when needed. Two other closures worth knowing about

The Praga Museum of Warsaw is closed through 15 September 2026. Its surrounding streets can be explored independently, but a neighbourhood walk is not a substitute for exhibition access.

The Fryderyk Chopin Institute confirms that the Warsaw Chopin Museum is closed throughout 2026 for renovation, with reopening planned in 2027. An independent Chopin concert or walking tour does not imply entry to an operating museum. A precise reopening date still needs confirmation.

Budget, comfort or a private guide?

• Budget-minded: start with the museum’s own ticket and a suitable free day. Check which rooms are included, whether you need a ticket, and whether audio costs extra.
• Independent comfort: reserve a suitable time, choose official audio where offered and leave a generous meal and transport break.
• Private or premium: compare the guide’s language, group size, duration, transport, accessibility and exact admission inclusions. A higher price does not guarantee extra museum access.

Make transport part of the visit

Start with the museum entrance, not just the district name. Plan the whole journey from your hotel, including transfers and the final walk.
